Gebru – age 20

Gebru is a student in his second year of school. Hailing from a village 35 km away, he comes from a family of farmers. On Sundays, Gebru makes the trek to school on foot, bringing with him his weekly sustenance, a single round loaf of bread. To minimize travel time, he has rented a room close to the campus. Every Friday, Gebru returns home to assist his father on the farm and earn money for his rent. In addition to his studies, he is also honing his skills in masonry and IT.

Hadas – age 18

Hadas is a first-year student pursuing a degree in IT. She hails from a village located 30 km away and is the eldest of three siblings. Her father is a farmer. Despite the long journey of three hours each way, Hadas walks to school every week, bringing her weekly meal from home. Her ultimate goal is to complete her education and use her skills to better her family's situation and serve her community. Unlike many of her friends who are forced to migrate abroad in search of work, Hadas aspires to remain in Ethiopia.

Muluberhan – age 20

Muluberhan is a first-year student from a neighboring village. He comes from a family where his father, an 80-year-old farmer, is the head. As the youngest of seven siblings, Muluberhan has a strong interest in IT. However, he is frustrated by the lack of functioning computers and reliable electricity at his school. This, along with the limited resources available, makes his educational journey a challenging one. Nevertheless, if Muluberhan is able to successfully complete his studies, he aspires to become a teacher at the same school. His hope is to help future students avoid the difficulties he has encountered.
